Abstract

PICOVI is the nationwide Violent Behavior Intervention Program, implemented in prisons in Spain. Thanks to a collaboration with the Valencian prison, the organization Terapia Aventura has developed a specific adjuvant Adventure Therapy (AT) program to PICOVI, conducted in a natural setting. The general objectives of the AT program were structured around:

  • Reviewing personal values and goals,
  • Strengthen positive coping strategies,
  • Preventing relapses in violent conducts.

The intervention was implemented using Adventure Therapy, through group cohesion techniques and archery, and from a humanistic and existentialist (Gestalt – Logotherapy) paradigm.
This experience has been evaluated through qualitative and quantitative research to assess its impact, and presenting valuable qualitative data.
