Abstract

This article identifies the components that merge to form the discipline of adventure therapy as well as examines what sets this approach apart from other forms of psychotherapy. These components are organized around the acronym: SUPRA, meaning above and beyond. SUPRA alliteratively stands for Saturated Solutions, Unique Universe, Purposeful Program, Reduced Resistance, and Authentic Adventure. The article concludes with implications for therapeutic practitioners.
