Abstract

This article highlights the effectiveness of experiential therapy in targeting neural mechanisms to treat adolescent addiction. Rather than reinforcing addiction memory, the therapy stimulates the dopaminergic system to facilitate the development of a new, endogenous reward system. This process enhances long-term stability and enables sustainable behavioural change. Emotional regulation is strengthened through positive experiences, self-efficacy and guided reflection. Despite facing methodological, structural and financial challenges, empirical studies and clinical observations confirm the therapy’s effectiveness. Further scientific research is essential to unlock its full potential and establish it as an integral part of addiction therapy.
